It’s officially been seven whole days since I’ve set up my account on Periscope and I’m a FanAddict (fanatic)!
Before I get into why I’m so in love love love with Periscope, I want to tell you a little about it (if you already don’t know). It’s a live-streaming video social media platform owned by Twitter that’s available on the iOS and Android systems. It’s only been released for three months, but it already has a huge following!
You can start a broadcast and people from around the world can immediately see what you’re sharing, unless you set your broadcast to private. It doesn’t get any better than that!
In the past week, I’ve attend #SMDay (Social Media Day) conferences, received encouragement, participated in Pass the Cast with the PeriGirls, and even made some business connections all from my home.
Without this platform, there’s no way my week would have been this interesting. Now, here are the 7 Reasons Why I’m a Fan of Periscope and Why You Should Be Too!
1. Twitter Owns It
I know I mentioned it before, but here’s why it’s worth mentioning again. If you’re a blogger/brand, then you’ve probably worked your butt off to get followers on any of your social media platforms.
That means you know how tough it is to gain new followers when a new platform comes out. With Periscope, you can easily find followers because your old Twitter followers are readily available for you to see right there in your account.
Here’s a huge bonus: Anytime you broadcast just press the Twitter icon right before you go live and a tweet will be sent to all of your Twitter followers letting them know that they can watch you!
And they don’t even need a Periscope account! Isn’t that awesome?!?!
2. There’s No Editing, Adding Music, Spell Checking, Etc.
Yep, all of that goes out of the window with LIVE broadcasting. For some that may be a bad thing, but if you’re like me and editing is such a huge hassle, then you’d love it.
I edit my YouTube videos because I want them to have a certain format, but editing isn’t something that can happen quickly. Periscope takes care of that by just letting you get on there and talk.
I’ve seen people scope while crafting for their blog (you know, a little behind the scenes peek) and I thought it was very authentic.
3. You Can Broadcast As Long As You Want
There is no time limit like on other platforms. You can talk, and talk, and talk and you’ll never get cutoff (unless you have terrible signal). Keep in mind that it’s best to stay on wifi.
If you’re long-winded and you’re not on wifi then you’ll be using up your phone’s data and oh boy, you’re going to have to pay! Literally!
4. Great Networking Tool
The interaction is amazing on the broadcasts I’ve viewed. I mainly visit business, entrepreneurial, or social media strategy broadcasts and the amount of knowledge and support given is astonishing!
Experts are helping newbies, but everybody is learning something new. If you’re broadcasting valuable, relevant information then someone may notice.
You may have gained a business lead/contact just from broadcasting. Yep, it’s easier than scrolling through a LinkedIn profile because the person can see and interact with you right then and there.
5. Comments are Instant
As a blogger, I love comments! I love love love them!
It lets me know that you all enjoy what I’m writing. I do respond to every single comment, but sometimes it may take me over a month to get through them all (sad face). I would love to respond to you all immediately without any lapse in time.
Periscope allows you to comment or ask a question during the broadcast.
Can you imagine being able to interact with little ol’ me while I’m talking or showing you a behind the scenes of my blog?
You do have to watch out for trolls because they do lurk on some broadcasts. However, you can easily block them while you’re broadcasting and you’ll never hear from them EVER again!
6. Broadcasts are Only Available for 24 hours
Yep, that’s right! Just 24 hours. So, if you had a terrible broadcast or your content wasn’t what you expected it to be, it will be gone forever.
You may want to know what you can do if you gave valuable, evergreen content and you want to share it across other social media platforms. Well, you can have the video set to automatically save to your phone.
Now, you can upload it to YouTube, Facebook, or anywhere else you choose.
7. No Ads
As of now, there are no ads on Periscope.
With all of the ads we’re inundated with on a daily basis on other platforms, it’s great to not have ads distract you from what you really want to see.
This isn’t to say there won’t be any ads in the future, but a nice little break for now will do.
Are you on Periscope? If so, what do you love about it? If not, will you be trying it? I would love for you to follow me on Periscope: @TheKreativeLife.
I do think it sounds really fun, but I also feel like – gah, one more social thing I’m “supposed” to be doing? I just cant’ keep up! But I might just check it out anyway 🙂
I’ve been hearing tons about Periscope but I haven’t had time to check it out yet! I will try to over the weekend and hopefully sign up!
Okay. I’m convinced. I’ve been thinking about maybe sorta kind of possibly looking into Periscope. You make it sound great so I’m going to sign up today. Thanks for the info!
I like the idea of no editing. You wouldn’t believe how much time it takes just to edit even the shortest of films.
Ah I’m so behind on this trend. It seems to be gaining a lot of traction!
I have never heard of this before. Great info. I will check it out.
I am loving that there are no ads at this point. I wonder how long that can last. I also really like that you can choose to save the video if you wish – or just let it fade to black and go on about life.
I must admit that I had never heard of Periscope before–it sounds so interesting and something that I should know about as a blogger. Thanks for introducing me to this new concept and platform!
Wow, this is really neat. I need to check this out and see how I can use it for my blog!
This was so helpful! One of the things on my to-do list was to learn more about periscope and this post was so informative. I can’t wait to check it out, thanks!!

I’ve been seeing this a lot. I will look more into this.
I’ve been hearing about Periscope all over the place and am eager to try it out!! Just haven’t gotten around to it yet 😉
Thanks for the explanation. I have been hearing a lot about Periscope, but I still couldn’t find a good post that explained it easily. This is a great comprehensive post. Thanks!
I love it to. Although I haven’t posted anything I have been
I’ve heard a bit about it. Iam always happy to hear more about potential resources I will use.
I need to look more into it. I have an account, but I haven’t done anything with it except turn off the alerts that were driving me crazy. I don’t know if I’ll periscope, but I should take a look at others.
I am SUCH a big fan of Periscope. It is so much fun! I am loving watching streams.
