My husband and I have big plans for making our very own furniture for our deck. We have all of the wood and supplies we need, but we never seem to find enough time to get our diy deck furniture project started. Hopefully, we’ll start and finish before the summer is over (fingers crossed).
My mom is visiting from out of town and she wanted something that her and my baby could use to sit on the back deck in the evening and even for breakfast. I needed to come up with something quick and easy and that didn’t cost too much since we already have the supplies for the deck furniture makeover project.
We went to a local thrift shop to look for cheap deck furniture and found two lawn chairs and a wooden table. The set of chairs cost $5 and so did the table. I also found a set of Ralph Lauren king size pillow cases that would be perfect for the vision I had for the deck. Last year we had a Caribbean themed wedding so I had several tablecloths that would be a good contrast to the pillow cases for my outdoor furniture makeover.
As you can see, the chairs were in pretty bad shape. The covering was tearing apart and there were leaves and dust under the cushions. The table wasn’t too bad, except that it needed to be sanded and a fresh coat of paint.
I stripped the covering from the chairs and disinfected them. I did leave the cushion intact. I sewed (yep, I sewed!) the pillow case and a piece of the table cloth together, so I could have new chair covers. I also sanded down the table and applied three coats of paint.
I’m so happy at the results! It didn’t take long at all and now we have a place on the deck where we can relax (until we finish the real furniture). The colors are so vibrant and fit me perfectly! Enjoy!
